Senior Girls Group Facilitator Needed

Job Title:  Youth Engagement Facilitator

*Primary focus on Girls Group

Reports to: Youth Programs Coordinator

Role: Facilitate, plan and implement all aspects of Quadra Village Community Centre’s Youth Programs (Drop In, Social Connections for Girls Program, youth events and initiatives) in conjunction with the Youth Programs Coordinator.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Lead facilitation of all aspects of the following Launch Pad Programs: Drop In, Social Connections for Girls Program, youth events and initiatives.
  2. Approach project work utilizing community development, asset building, youth engagement and other best practice strategies.
  3. Facilitate life and social skills development (eg: pro social behavior, communication and life skills), individual action plans, employability enhancement and self-esteem development for youth.
  4. Assist youth with life issues and provide support referrals and system navigation as necessary. 
  5. Identify and support young persons who are having serious social problems and work with them on useful skills through mentoring, teachable moments and activities
  6. Assist in collaboration with community, service providers, businesses, service clubs, community groups and community events to provide and sustain meaningful opportunities for youth
  7. Ensure maintenance and tabulation of attendance and statistics regarding youth drop-in, Girls Group, special event and other Youth programs.
  8. Write all quarterly reports required for your program
  9. Assist in the day to day operations of the Quadra Village Community Centre.
  10. Respond to general inquiries regarding Quadra Village Community Centre, and to share in the work of maintaining a responsive and inclusive community centre. 
  11. Be familiar with and implement Quadra Village Community Centre (Downtown Blanshard Advisory Committee’s) policies, procedures and practices.  As well as the Youth Programs Handbook and the Youth Programs Training Manual.
  12. Perform other related duties when required and approved by the Youth Programs Coordinator or Executive Director.
  13. Engage as needed in the Youth Program Quality Initiative and attend learning community meetings and trainings as directed by the Youth Programs Coordinator
  14. Ensure the Youth Centre and other program spaces (Middle House) are suitable, clean and safe for the operation of youth programs.
  15. Be familiar with and implement the work plan connected to your program
  16. Foster a connection to key family members, youth supports and other assets that can help with a youth’s life success.
  17. Ensure that ideas and plans are youth driven and empower youth and create opportunities for youth to lead and reflect each session

Launch Pad Program Descriptions

Drop In

  • Encourage, lead, facilitate and supervise the meaningful participation of youth in at drop-in and ensure that the program environment is interactive, respectful, fair and welcoming.
  • Plan and implement structured activities during drop in hours
  • Be familiar with opening and closing procedures
  • Plan, promote, publicize and evaluate drop-in

Social Connections for Girls Program

  • Coordinate, facilitate and implement our Social Connections for Girls and Boys Program
  • Coordinate self-worth, wellness and self-care workshops and provide creative, social and recreational experiences that empower the girls and boys to help them make healthy choices in their lives while building a sense of belonging and community
  • Plan and implement healthy activities in the community such as rowing, hiking, horseback riding and other activities the youth request
  • Transport youth as appropriate.  Class 4 license may be required.


  • Post-secondary degree in Child and Youth Care or a relevant discipline (e.g. Social Work, Community Development, or comparable degree).  Minimum two years’ experience in group facilitation, community development work, outreach work, system navigation and experience working with high risk youth and families.
  • Preference to candidates with two or more years’ experience working with high risk youth in a community centre setting, with knowledge/awareness of First Nations populations, diverse cultures, Class 4 license, Food Safe and YPQI training
  • Criminal Record Check is required.
  • Standard First Aid


Hours of Work:                

4 hours per week – Wednesdays 230-630pm.  Many of the hours required for this position consist of late afternoons, evenings and weekends.  There is also the ability to collaborate about the ultimate work schedule chosen and provide flexibility.  Except for drop-in hours which are Thursdays and Fridays 5-8pm



The term of this position is March-June 2020 with the possibility of extending it through the summer and then Sept 2020-March 2021.  All program terms dependent on funding.  Hours per week will be determined by project funding levels.  Position and hours may change due to funding.

Salary and Benefits:        

  • $20/hr for Girls Group
  • $17/hr for Casual Drop-in Worker
